Il Premio Metauro nasce nel 1994: come sempre succede una serie di circostanze casuali (l'incontro in un ristorante di Urbania tra Umberto Piersanti, futuro presidente del Premio, il sindaco della città, Giuseppe Lucarini e l'allora Assessore alla cultura della Provincia, Alberto Berardi) ne segnano l' origine.
